The Main Advantages
Uskumruköy's greatest advantages are life among nature and proximity to the Black Sea. The village is surrounded on all sides by pasture and meadow, in a landscape rich with natural coastal dunes. There are dunes at Arıköy and Tatlısu. The open-air venues and restaurants along the Kilyos road serve as a place to unwind for visitors from Istanbul. Newer projects such as Sarıyer Uskumruköy Park offer walking routes and children's playgrounds for residents.
- Nature and forest: the village sits amid pasture and meadow, in a landscape rich with natural coastal dunes.
- Close to the Black Sea: Kilyos, Gümüşdere beach and other stretches of coast are a short distance away.
- A quiet village setting: 9 km to the centre of Sarıyer's villages, 3.5 km to Zekeriyaköy, 4.5 km to Kilyos
The Drawbacks
Life in Uskumruköy has its drawbacks too. Distance from the city can be a problem for transport and access to services. The village office, school, secondary school, health clinic, mosque, village café and sports ground are all in Aşağıköy. There is a primary and a secondary school in the village, and neighbouring villages send students to the secondary school here. Uskumruköy's economy is led by livestock and forestry, unlike Gümüşdere with its market gardening, and that can make some modern conveniences harder to reach.
- Transport: 9 km to the centre of Sarıyer's villages, and the Kilyos road can be long and winding.
- Access to services: the health clinic, school and secondary school are only in Aşağıköy; provision elsewhere is limited.
- Distance from city amenities: an economy led by livestock and forestry keeps some urban services limited.
The Realities and the Way of Life
What Uskumruköy offers is a balance between quiet village life and closeness to nature and the sea. The Samsun neighbourhood and the area known as Arıköy on the Gümüşdere road were formed by later arrivals; the Dere neighbourhood takes its name from that history. Uskumruköy's economy is led by livestock and forestry.
Life here comes with the advantages of being close to Zekeriyaköy and Sarıyer while keeping nature and the Black Sea within reach. The centre of Sarıyer's villages is 9 km away, the Kilyos road 4.5 km and Zekeriyaköy 3.5 km. That position places it among the parts of Istanbul gaining value fastest. Established villa developments such as Talya Konakları put Istanbul Airport within a short drive, and newer projects such as AS Uskumruköy offer a distinctive life near the coast, with easy travel onward.
